Teaching movement goes so much deeper than guiding people into physical shapes - there is an opportunity to invite people into the inner landscape of the body, and support them in finding a deeper, honest connection to what is happening inside. Teaching for me, is a dance between facilitator and student/s that must remain curious, open and intentional. In this 5 hour CPD for movement teachers, we’ll break down some frameworks for helping us deepen and refine our skills as space holders, and explore how to create meaningful & authentic practices where your students feel seen, held, inspired and more in touch with their own beings.

PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING
Non-judgement
Intention
Curiosity
Reciprocity
Flow

WHAT WILL WE COVER?
SOMATICS
Somatic approaches to movement emphasize sensory awareness (paying attention to sensing, or Being) over action (Doing). In the somatic learning context, how one moves is more important than what the movement is. Learn how to teach movement through a more somatic lens.
THEMING & SEQUENCING
We will explore a method for curating classes that offer a sense of intention, continuity & flow. We will explore shifting from a peak pose to an energetic peak. This map can be used also for longer offerings like workshops and retreats as well.

LANGUAGE & CUEING
Language is one of our most powerful and beautiful tools as teachers - how do we cue in a way that invites greater inclusion, interoception, somatic understanding, curiosity and play?
BODY READING
Teaching movement is truly a dance between facilitator and student. If we are trying to remember a class plan too hard, or have a very narrow perception of a shape/ exercise, we often forget to truly see the bodies moving in front of us. Body language and holding patterns tells us SO much as teachers, and this information can really help us serve our students. When we are able to really read bodies, our students will feel more seen and hopefully, held.
We will explore experiential anatomy, hands on support & touch, the principle of yielding in movement and how to train your eye to see the subtleties of the moving, breathing body. Here it is important we ‘learn the rules before we break them’ (!)
'FROM THE HEAD TO THE HEART'
Nurturing our own practice and experience. We’ll explore curating an offering from our own experience, and of course we will practice.

WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?
All movement teachers who are craving some new inspiration for their offerings and looking to deepen their teaching skills. These principles can be applied of course to yoga, but also to anyone looking to offer a more somatic experience in their classes (for example, most of what I share now is pilates, but I apply these principles to all my classes).
